Dear Dr. Ramic,

Thank you kindly for you note and good wishes.

I assure you that we are working on the same task of preserving the memory of all the victims of the Yugoslav fratricide, and making sure truth about the most recent past is recorded and made available to younger generations.

Along the way, we encounter various obstacles. Those are often, if not as a rule, based on the lack of knowledge of the facts and on the abundance of emotions that inevitably cloud one's judgement. Such obstacles could sometimes seem insurmountable because many are erected by people we thought of as our fellow-travelers on the road to historical truth and reconciliation. It is crucial that we recognize their damaging nature and the way in which those could jeopardize our effort to learn the truth.

I always believed that overcoming radical views in our midst is the first and necessary step in the process of facing the past with honesty, integrity, and a desire to learn from it. I am confident that both of us will continue along this difficult path and strive for the preservation of truth.
