RAPE VICTIMS ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
It is shocking that rape is used as a weapon of war in warzones around the world, to humiliate, to terrorise, and to destroy whole communities. The main target of the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina was the conquest of new territories to create a "Greater Serbia". Genocide (eufamisam - ethnic cleansing) was the strategy of this goal, and mass rape was a tool of genocide. Rape in conflict must be treated as a war crime, what it is, and can no longer be regarded as unfortunate collateral damage of war. According to official figures of the UN in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression and genocide were raped between 20,000 and 50,000 women. The victims later sued at the UN war crimes tribunal, which resulted in wartime rapists being put behind bars for the first time in history. So far only 33 people have been convicted for the crimes by local courts and 30 by a UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
