KANADSKO-BOSNJACKA ZAJEDNICA PRIHVATILA NOVI PRIJEDLOG REZOLUCIJE O GENOCIDU U SREBRENICI U KANADSKOM PARLAMENTU

Bosniak - Canadian Community  received a new proposal of the  resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica {M – 416} by the Government of Canada

Motion, M – 416  by the Government of Canada

"That, in the opinion of the House, the day of July 11 should be recognized as Srebrenica Remembrance Day in memorial of the Srebrenica Massacre of July of 1995, in which more than 7,000 Bosniak men and boys were executed, declared an act of genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice, and 25,000 others were forcibly removed from their homes by Bosnian Serb forces."

After consultations with Members of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law  of the Sarajevo University, Members of the Governing Board of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, Members of the International Expert Team of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, Members of the Governing Board of the Congress of North American Bosniaks, Canadian Branch, we want to inform you that the Bosniak - Canadian Community accepts the proposed resolution that was submitted  for our consideration by the Government  of Canada.

This is the closest version of the resolution to reflect our need and our desire to rectify this process. This resolution reflects the findings and decisions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia,  the International Court of Justice and uses the word genocide in a "confirmation" manner, which is important to Bosniak - Canadian Community. Even though Canada is not taking a personal stand and approach to this matter, and uses the motion in a "third person tense", it is still satisfactory to Bosniak – Canadian Community and it can be the first step towards our future involvement and work with the Canadian Government on mutual education and prevention of genocide.

The adoption of the resolution is just the beginning of more serious work on informing the Canadian public and Canadian authorities with the dimensions of the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina and genocide against Bosniaks. Opportunity for this is already provided in the lobby for the adoption of Bill, C – 533 an Act respecting a Srebrenica Remembrance Day in Canada.

Thank you to all Canadian Bosniaks who participated in this struggle. Thank you to all friends of truth and justice that we all supported these five years, especially in moments when we are exposed to attacks by those who try to deny the genocide. Thanks to the media, who regularly publish results of all our struggles.
