Today denying the genocide in Srebrenica by the president of the smaller Bosnian-Herzegovinian entity, the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has greatly harassed the Canadian - Bosnian Community, many of whom survived the victims of aggression and genocide in B&H. On behalf of our community, I ask you to make a statement in which you will strictly condemn the denial of genocide in Srebrenica.
The Srebrenica genocide was declared an act of genocide by the international Criminal tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice and is highlighted at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights which opened in 2014. Motion M-416 passed in the House of Commons on 19 October 2010 recognized July 11 annually as Srebrenica Remembrance Day in Canada. Motion M-587 passed in the House of Commons on 24 April 2015 include the Srebrenica genocide, and Srebrenica Remembrance Day as part of “Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Awareness Month“ every April.
