Statement by Institute for Research of Genocide Canada on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the tragic mass shooting at "Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal" that saw the lives of 14 women cut violently short. This senseless and brutal act led to the Canadian Parliament designating December 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. On behalf of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada I call on every Canadian and every citizen of the world to question, call out, and speak up against violence and discrimination towards women, girls, and people of diverse gender identities. Together, we can help bring an end to gender-based violence and create a culture of mutual respect.
Today, and always, we remember Genevieve Bergeron, Helene Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganiere, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michele Richard, Annie St-Arneault,  Annie Turcotte, and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz.
Professor Emir Ramic
Director of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada
