Canada congratulates BiH Independence Day
Happy Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Those who respect the unique, sovereign, independent, and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina, those who acknowledge the historical results of the referendum of 1992, those who acknowledge the scientifically verified fact that B & H was then recognized as an independent state, should feel honoured because of the historical fact that they belong to the generation of the founders of the independent state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With regards to those who deny these facts: we will not plead with them, but rather send them the message that Independence Day will forever remain a symbol of the Bosnian state.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to offer my best wishes for all Canadians of Bosnian origin on this Day of Independence. The Bosnian community here in Canada should be proud of their heritage and the beauty of their country. I am honoured once again to issue this congratulatory letter to your community. Over my life I have been blessed to get to know the Bosnian people, your culture and your homeland. It has been many years since I had the opportunity to visit your wonderful country and I hope that one day soon I will get the opportunity to take in all the beauty once again. Please accept my best wishes for a wonderful Day of Independence.

I would like to congratulate the Bosnian-Canadian community as they mark this Bosnia Independence Day of March 1. Twenty-nine years ago, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina voted for the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a referendum that was held between 29 February and 1 March 1992. The results of the referendum were accepted on March 6 by the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 7 April 1992, the European Community recognized Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent state.
During the past there have been many tragedies and challenges for the people of Bosnia, but they have maintained their independence and democracy working for a better future.
The Bosnian-Canadian community, while being an essential part of Canada, have supported and advocated for a continued democratic and independent Bosnia which all Canadians agree with.

Dear Dr Ramic, It is my pleasure to extend greetings to the Bosnian community in Hamilton on the celebration of the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This day marks the anniversary of the referendum declaring a sovereign and independent Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Bosnian people have much to be very proud of since that declaration in 1992. Bosnia and Herzegovina are today a pillar of democracy and freedom in the Balkans. It is an example of working together in peace. They remain an example to many of what is possible when working together.
We are appreciative of the continuing contribution of the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the cultural diversity of Hamilton. Your contribution continues to make a difference in our city. We are proud that the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina have found a place with us. May we continue to work together to make Hamilton a community you can call home, live in freedom, and raise a family.
Wishing you continued success and happiness in Hamilton.
Sincerely,
Fred Eisenberger, Mayor

Members of the Canadian Bosniak Community:
Re: Bosnia’s Independence Day
I wish to congratulate and extend my best wishes to the Bosnian community on marking March 1 st Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Your ground- breaking historical movement on the 1 st of March, 1992 for contemporary Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s statehood, including independence and self-determination that was expressed by the majority of the citizens of these great communities. On that memorable day, Bosnia and Herzegovina became a member of the international community and recognized as the 177 th member of the United Nations.
I commend the communities of Bosnia and Herzegovina for standing strong and united and continuing to recognize the importance of the movement every year.
Sincerely,
Maria Pearson
