Canadian Alberta province pays tribute to Srebrenica genocide victims
The Canadian Institute for the Research of Genocide received a letter from the Minister of Culture of the Canadian province of Albert, Jason Lua, in which he pointed out that the Government of Alberta pays tribute to the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.
In a letter written on behalf of the Government of Alberta, Lua states that the Government strongly condemns the senseless hatred and violence at the heart of every genocide.
“Genocide is the most destructive form of hatred, racism and intolerance and leaves scars on the descendants of the victims. The Government of Alberta is honouring the victims, including the more than 8,000 Bosniak men and boys who were killed as a result of the Srebrenica genocide. On March 26, 2021, Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month became law in Alberta. every year, the law declares April as the month of remembrance, condemnation and prevention of genocide. This means that the month of April is designated to recognize the consequences of the crime of genocide, remember the victims and promote a better understanding of the causes of genocide worldwide,” the letter added.
Alberta thus joined the Government of Canada and the governments of other Canadian provinces in recognizing the genocide in Srebrenica.
“Another victory for the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica in Canada, which obliges us, even more, to work on answering the crucial question, is it possible for the act of genocide to remain on the soil of the state of BiH? One cannot derive rights, benefits, unquestionable categories from genocide, i.e. the right to anything cannot be exercised on the basis of genocide. The crime of genocide created the entity of Republika Srpska (RS) on the soil of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is necessary to demand that this act and its perpetrators be sanctioned before the international legal institutions. That, of course, is not the entire Serb people,” the Canadian Institute for the Research of Genocide announced.
