PISMO HAMDIJA CUSTOVIC PREDSJEDNIKU UNIVERZITETA U VANKUVERU

Dear Professor Toope,

Please find the attached from the Congress of North American Bosniaks, an umbrella organization representing interests of approximately 350,000 Bosniaks in the United States and Canada, most of them victims of ethnic cleansing and genocide during the Bosnian war. This letter is to formally petition that you do not allow Srdja Trifkovic, a known genocide denier in the guise of academia, to utilize your prestigious university as a platform for propaganda and self promotion by holding a lecture at the event organized by the Serbian Students Association.

Facts around the Bosnian genocide and other UN documented cases, including the Holocaust, are indisputable, and frankly we are dismayed at the continued efforts by some in the Serbian community to deny such attrocities, having been subject to the same during World War II by the fascist Croatian state. Denials of war crimes and genocide only serve to fuel the fire of hatred in the Balkans and is an obstacle to peaceful reconciliation.  We support the Institute for Genocide Research earlier leter asking you to disallow this lecture from taking place. We would support the same action for any genocide denier, nost just those who deny the Bosnian genocide, but any documented case recognized by the International Court of Justice and the United Nations. We are also hopeful that your academic exprtise in the area of international law will guide you to the correct decision.

Respectfully,

Hamdija Custovic

CNAB spokesperson
