Chicago City Assembly adopts Resolution on Genocide in Srebrenica.

The Chicago City Assembly unanimously adopted the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica and declared every July 11 as the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica. At the same time, the Assembly of this American city condemned the genocide.

“The resolution was adopted after 12 years of fighting for truth and justice in the city with the largest anti-Bosnian movement in the USA. From now on, July 11 is the Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica. This is another, very significant victory for the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica, this time in Chicago, which obliges us even more to work on the answer to the crucial question: is it possible for the act of genocide to remain on the soil of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina? One cannot derive rights, benefits, unquestionable categories from genocide, meaning – the right to anything cannot be exercised on the basis of genocide”, said the Canada Institute for the Research of Genocide, the Bosniak Brotherhood of Genocide Survivors and the Bosniak American National Association.

They also expressed their gratitude to the sponsor of the Resolution, Debra L. Silverstein, a member of the Chicago City Assembly, as well as to all members of the Assembly who condemned and expressed solidarity with the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We thank all the individuals, organizations and communities who participated in this great undertaking, essential for the culture of remembrance in Chicago, the US and the world,” they added.
