Seven years ago, a gunman entered a place of worship in the middle of prayer and opened fire on Muslim worshippers, killing six men and injuring many more. The Green Square symbolizes the green carpet of the Mosque where the victims last stood to pray, and is a symbol of remembrance to the innocent victims and survivors of the Quebec City Mosque attack.
I commit to standing against all forms of Islamophobia and to remaining resolute in our duty as Canadians to promote a society of tolerance and inclusivity.
#GreenSquareCampaign.
Today is the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against #Islamophobia.
Seven years ago today marks one of the worst hate-motivated, mass murders in Canadian history. Six men were murdered and many others injured while at prayer in the Islamic Cultural Centre in Quebec City. The Green Square represents the carpets of the mosque, where these men last stood to pray, but also represents the hope that the victims are in a better place, a green garden. It is worn in solidarity with the victims and survivors and represents a commitment by us as Canadians to stand up against Islamophobia and all forms of hatred in our society.
A important day to recommit to addressing Islamophobia, racism, and hate in all forms. And to build a world that is safer for everyone, everywhere. #GreenSquareCampaign
