• Institute For Research of Genocide Canada, PRESS RELEASE, May 23, 2024 ???? Institute For Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) welcomes the historic adoption of the Resolution "International Day of Recognition and Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica 1995" by the UN General Assembly (Resolution). This Resolution is very important because it declares July 11 as the World day of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica and condemns the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica as a historical event, condemns the glorification of convicted war criminals and calls on member states to preserve the established facts, including through their educational systems, by developing appropriate programs, also as a sign of remembrance, in order to prevent the denial and distortion of facts, and the occurrence of genocide in the future. The adoption of the Resolution is crucial in our common search for justice, truth, a culture of remembrance and responsibility. By fighting for justice, we keep the peace. Let's think about the message of the Resolution. Because Srebrenica, BiH and the world need justice and recognition for victims and survivors. With this Resolution, Srebrenica was once again returned to the global international scene as a world symbol of the fight for justice, truth, reconciliation, learning, prevention of genocide and ultimately a world symbol of the fight against the denial of genocide and the glorification of convicted war criminals. The introduction of the genocide in Srebrenica into educational systems around the world and regular annual remembrance of this terrible crime can help future generations, not only to be properly informed about this crime, but also to understand more easily what kind of world they live in, to understand that they are part of the world that enabled and allowed such a crime. The Resolution will pave the way for building peace, confronting the past and international commemoration of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica. After all the relevant verdicts, this is an important step taken by the international community in order to restore the confidence of the victims' families in the international justice system. The Resolution is based on facts. It doesn't go into interpretations of history or refer to a specific country or nation. The resolution aims to facilitate the process of reconciliation, raise the level of empathy and improve the building of trust in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The rhetoric of denying historical facts and disregarding international law, including international humanitarian law and human rights law, seriously threatens this process. Those who voted against the Resolution on Genocide, in addition to showing a serious failure of civilization in their actions, are also making a big legal mistake due to the existence of the judgments of two of the world's most important judicial instances. The international expert team of the IGC actively participated in lobbying for the adoption of the Resolution. IGK had a special activity in Canada, which resulted in Canada being one of the sponsors of the Resolution. IGC thanks the proposers and sponsors of the Resolution, thanks everyone in the world who raised their voices for the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica and justice for the victims of that terrible crime. ???? Razmislimo o poruci Rezolucije. Rezolucija ?e utrti put izgradnji mira, suo?avanju s prošloš?u i me?unarodnim komemoriranjem žrtava genocida u Srebrenici. Rezolucija želi olakšati proces pomirenja, podignuti nivo empatije i unaprijediti izgradnju povjerenja u BiH i regionu. Retorika poricanja historijskih ?injenica i nepoštivanja me?unarodnog prava, uklju?uju?i me?unarodno humanitarno pravo i pravo ljudskih prava, ozbiljno ugrožava ovaj proces.
