Subject: Request for Title Correction

Dear Sir/Madam,

In your article "Bosnian History", authored by R. Jeffrey Smith, the word "Srebrenica massacre" is used in the title. We believe that using the word “massacre" instead of "genocide" diminishes the gravity of the crime. The term "massacre" can be used in any crime where the facts have not been legally determined. The genocide in Srebrenica has been legally proven, and as you appropriately discuss in your article, we kindly request that you use the term "genocide" in the title.

Also, it is important to remind you that on May 23this year UN has approved a resolution to commemorate the 1995 Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia-Herzegovina annually.

The resolution designates July 11 as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica, thus establishing an annual day of commemoration for the massacre of more than 8,000 local Bosniak men and boys almost 30 years ago. We hope you will understand the reasons for our intervention and correct the title to read: "Srebrenica Genocide”.

Warm regards.

Director of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada
