During the last century, freedom of speech gained a great momentum as the human rights advanced. On one hand it has opened doors of expression to bring awareness on certain issues. On the other hand this freedom has been used as an excuse to target and harm certain groups. -----(This needs to be taken out: We all love this right and encourage it [What do we love?  That someone is being targeted???]).  Many human rights organizations are concerned about individuals such as Anders Behring Breivik who used freedom of speech to justify his actions. Prior to going out and massacring innocent youth he openly expressed his views that Europe must be cleansed of those who are not Christian, focusing specifically on Bosnian and Albanians.  Furthermore, he praised Radovan Karadzic for attempting to rid Serbia of Islam during the 1992 to 1995 aggression and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As Professor Marko Atilla Hoare states “Breivik represents an extremely dangerous trend in Western and European politics” that of Islamophobia and Breivik has a list of names of individuals in his manifesto who are an inspiration to him. [1]

In this letter attention must be drawn to a specific name that the Norwegian terrorist cites, of  Srdja Trifkovic, a Serbian- American author who openly denies the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina and openly expresses his hate of Islam. He was also an unofficial spokesman for Republika Sprska during the early nineties, an advisor to a convicted war criminal Biljana Plavisic, a director at the Centre for International Affairs at Rockford Institute and a visiting professor at University of Banja Luka. Trifkovic has worked closely with many war criminals in The Hague today and his influence on Breivik is of great concern that needs sanctions.

Having followed Trifkovic’s work in the last few years we are deeply concerned about how his work has influenced violence against groups in the past. This type of ideology has had influence on Serb nationalists in Bosnia and Herzegovina which resulted in the 1992 to 1995 aggression and genocide.  With the latest attack in Norway more needs to be to protect the targeted group by paying close attention to works of individuals such as Srdja Trifkovic. The point that Michael Sells draws upon in his latest article draws upon the importance of ideologies and that Trifkovic’s views helped legitimize Breivik’s Islamophobia which further justified his reasons for committing the attacks.{2}.

The Congress of North American Bosniaks (CNAB), Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IRGC), American Institute for Genocide and Education (BAGI),  and Australian Council of BiH Organizations (ACBHO) strongly believe that Trifkovic’s academic credentials, and his ability to show academic integrity should be evaluated, in light of his views on genocide and his influence on those who commit some of the worst acts of terrorism. Through his writing and lectures he negates genocide and continues to legitimize hate towards minority groups and negate genocide which occurred in Bosnia. [Trifkovic uses the excuse of fighting terrorism to validate his arguments however he is only promoting terrorism and the latest Norway attacks demonstrates the extent of influence he has had on Breivik’s views. [2]]  [Is this is a direct quote?? If not take it out]

Srdja Trifkovic and other chauvinists continue to promote and instigate their hate. [[[ This needs to be fixed too: As in the case of World War II, it started off as open hate towards Jews and resulted in a Holocaust. Today, Trifkovic and his followers justify their views as freedom of speech however these views have already resulted in aggression and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina and now continuing in a form of terrorism.]

After the latest attacks in Norway it is time to take a stand and prevent this form of hate speech because if not stopped, more attacks and even massacres are very likely to occur.
