Institute for Research of Genocide Canada {IRGC} mourns the death of Kurt Jonassohn, MIGS Co-Founder and former Professor of Sociology at Concordia University

It is with great sadness that IRGC writes to inform you of the passing on December 1, 2011 a collaborator in genocide studies, Kurt Jonassohn, the co-founder of MIGS. Kurt asked sociologist Roberta Hamilton, his former student and friend, to write his obituary.

You will find it on the MIGS web site at: http://migs.concordia.ca/

Still sharp of mind when he died at the age of 91, Kurt set a high standard for scholarship and expected the most from researchers working to understand the causes of genocide and its prevention. He was an inspiration and a mentor to many of us and he will be missed.

Best wishes/Frank Chalk, Director, Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies and Professor of History, Concordia University
