Uncovering evidence of genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Dijana Muminovic, a Bosnian-American documentary photographer and a member of the International expert team of the Institute for Research of Genocide in Canada, was at the Lake Perucac in September of 2010, documenting one of her most meaningful stories from Bosnia. “Arriving to Perucac, I felt like such an important photojournalist. The Missing Persons Institute of Bosnia and Herzegovina (MPI) stopped everyone in order to wait for me to arrive. Hundreds of volunteers from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina arrived to help find remains of those missing, and I was amazed that everyone kept a positive attitude in such a difficult situation. It was also hard to believe that at such a beautiful lake we were digging the traces from the war. Unfortunately, the Lake was flooded, and not all the bodies were exhumed, but again in 2014, the MPI continued the search, but some bodies will remain missing.”
