Since our founding, we have brought together hundreds of young Bosnians through cultural events, social gatherings, and initiatives that strengthen identity and belonging. This past Ramadan, we proudly organized iftars in Hamilton and Toronto and supported a community iftar in London, bringing our community together in faith and unity. We were also proud to support the Bajramsko Sijelo in Toronto, organized by mosques across the Greater Toronto Area, further strengthening bonds within our community.
Looking ahead, we are encouraging strong engagement at the upcoming Srebrenica Genocide Memorial in Windsor this summer, ensuring that remembrance remains central to our collective identity. We are also happy to announce the return of the beloved annual Bosnian Charity Soccer Tournament in 2026, a tradition that uplifts our community spirit while supporting important causes.
Our early success is a testament to the passionate team we have built—active members and volunteers stretching from Vancouver to Toronto—united by a shared vision for the future. Through a growing network, a vibrant national presence, and carefully built partnerships, the BCA is a large team of young Bosnians determined to carry forward our heritage. The current Board of Directors includes: Kenan Sljoka and Haris Kapo (co-presidents), Emina Kapo and Dr. Ajdin Kajtazovic (General Directors), Denina Sulejmanovic (Secretary), and Alem Duranovic and Lejla Lalic (treasurers). To set ourselves up for success we have created core teams dedicated to events, media, design, and finance ensure that every step we take is thoughtful, strategic, and sustainable.
Every initiative we undertake is guided by a deep sense of responsibility—to our community, to our homeland, and to the generations yet to come. The Bosnian Canadian Association stands not merely as an organization, but as a living testament to the resilience, dreams, and enduring pride of a people who carry their roots with them wherever they go. Our story is just beginning—and it is one filled with hope, purpose, and an unwavering connection to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Opcija 2 - The Story
For many years, there was a noticeable gap among young Bosnians in Canada, particularly those aged 21 to 36 — a generation that was meant to carry forward the identity, culture, and community spirit of our people. Despite the deep emotional connection to our homeland, there was a lack of an organized platform where young Bosnians could connect, strengthen their heritage, and build meaningful bonds within the diaspora. We recognized that without action, this gap risked leading to a loss of identity, weakening the ties that generations before us had fought to preserve.
From this realization, the Bosnian Canadian Association (BCA) was born — an initiative founded by young Bosnians aged 21-36 who chose to take responsibility for the future of our community. Guided by a profound sense of duty to both past and future generations, we set out to preserve, nurture, and advance Bosnian identity through meaningful action, cultural events, and strengthened connections across Canada.
Our mission is clear: to unite young Bosnian-Canadians, empower them to become proud carriers of our culture, and build enduring bridges between our homeland and the diaspora. Since our founding, we have brought together hundreds of young people through a series of impactful initiatives. We proudly organized iftars in Hamilton and Toronto, supported a communal iftar in London, and decorated the Bajramsko Sijelo celebration in Toronto, coordinated by mosques across the Greater Toronto Area.
Our team — composed of passionate members and volunteers from Vancouver to Toronto — continues to build a growing national network of young Bosnians. The current Board of Directors includes: Kenan Sljoka and Haris Kapo (co-presidents), Emina Kapo and Dr. Ajdin Kajtazovic (General Directors), Denina Sulejmanovic (Secretary), and Alem Duranovic and Lejla Lalic (treasurers). With dedicated structures in events, media, design, and finance, we are laying the groundwork for sustainable and lasting growth. Our social media team aims to build a digital homeland, our design team works to showcase the vibrance of Bosnian culture, and the events team unites Bosnians together.
The Bosnian Canadian Association is not merely a response to a need — it is a movement. A movement of young people who refuse to allow identity to fade, who understand the power of memory, belonging, and shared purpose. Our story is only just beginning, and it is led by an unbreakable love for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and an unwavering commitment to remain united, wherever life may take us.
