Guide for Diaspora Registration for the General Elections in BiH

Guide for Diaspora Registration for the General Elections in BiH

1) Key Dates

  • Registration deadline for diaspora voters: July 21, 2026, by midnight (24:00, Bosnia and Herzegovina time)
  • Election Day: October 4, 2026

2) Where to Register (Online)

  • Registration is done through the official portal of the Central Election Commission of BiH (CIK):
  • e?Elections Portal: https://eizbori.izbori.ba

3) What to Prepare Before You Start (Documents)

Before registering, prepare the following (clear photo or scan):

  • Valid BiH ID document:
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina ID card or passport (scan/photo)

Proof of address in the USA (one example):

  • driver’s license, utility bill, bank statement, etc.

Active email address

Tip: Images should be in color, without glare, and all details and edges must be clearly visible.

4) Information You Will Need to Enter

While completing the application, you will need:

  • Current address in the USA (where you want your voting materials to be delivered)
  • Last address / residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Personal information and JMBG

Important: A separate certificate of residence in BiH is not required—entering your last address is sufficient; the CIK verifies the data through its own records.

5) Application Steps in the e?Elections System (Step by Step)

The CIK process includes several basic steps: creating an account, logging in, entering data, uploading documents, and submitting the request.

  • Step 1 — Create an account
    Register on the e?Elections portal.
  • Step 2 — Confirm your email
You will receive an email; click the confirmation link to activate your account.
  • Step 3 — Log in
Log in using your email and password (initial password is sent via email and should be changed after login).
  • Step 4 — Complete the application for voting from abroad
Enter the required information: your US address, last BiH address, personal details, and JMBG.
  • Step 5 — Upload documents
Upload a scan/photo of your BiH ID or passport and proof of your address in the USA.
  • Step 6 — Print, sign, and upload the signed form
The CIK instructions state that the form is often printed, signed (matching your ID signature), then scanned/photo uploaded back into the system.
  • Step 7 — Submit your application
Click “submit.” After processing, you will receive an email notification.
Once submitted, you will also receive confirmation that your application is under review.

6) Useful Tips (to Avoid Rejection)

  • Apply early—do not wait until the last day (due to potential technical issues and correction time).
  • Documents must be clear—blurry images or cropped edges are the most common reasons for rejection or requests for additional information.
  • Your signature (if signing the form) should closely match the signature on your ID document.
  • Enter your US address exactly as it appears on your mailbox (to ensure correct delivery of voting materials).

7) If You Encounter a Problem

  • The portal provides CIK contact information (email and phone) for support and questions related to e?Elections and registration.
  • The CIK also notes that you can submit a support request through the application if you encounter any issues.
